Monmouthshire Council Tax Bands
Monmouthshire is a billing authority in Wales. Wales uses nine bands, A to I, rather than the eight bands (A to H) used in England and Scotland; the full table below reflects this.
This year's increase of £139.31 on Band D is roughly equivalent to 2.1 weeks' worth of the average UK household's weekly food shop.

Council Tax is usually billed over 10 monthly instalments, though your council sets the exact months. You have the right to request 12 monthly instalments instead, in writing to your council. Each payment is smaller, but the total amount you pay over the year is exactly the same either way.
The 10-month column reflects the usual default. The 12-month column applies only if you've arranged 12 monthly instalments with your council.

How Council Tax bands work
Every domestic property is placed into a valuation band based on its value on a fixed historic date, not its current market value. Band D is the reference point: lower bands pay a fixed fraction of the Band D rate, higher bands pay more.
What is included in this bill
The figures above are the full bill for each band: Monmouthshire's own charge, plus county, police and fire precepts, plus an area-average parish or community council precept. An individual parish's own precept can differ slightly from this area average.
Discounts, reductions and premiums
The figures above are the standard full charge and do not include any discount or premium. A 25% Single Person Discount applies if you are the only adult living in the property. Council Tax Support (or Council Tax Reduction) is a means-tested discount administered by Monmouthshire. Empty-home and second-home premiums can add up to 100% for some properties. Contact Monmouthshire directly for your own entitlement.
Wales has a ninth band
Unlike England and Scotland, Wales has an additional Council Tax Band I, for the highest-value properties, charged at 21/9 (more than double) of the Band D rate. This reflects Wales's own 2003 property revaluation, which England has not repeated since 1991 and Scotland has not repeated since 1991 either.
