How Band G works
Every home in England, Wales and Scotland is placed in a band based on what it would have sold for on a fixed date: 1 April 1991 in England and Scotland, and 1 April 2003 in Wales. Your band does not change because prices have risen since then.
Each council sets its Band D charge each year. Band G is then a fixed share of that charge, set in law, so the cheapest and most expensive councils for Band D are also the cheapest and most expensive for Band G.
The figures here are the standard charge before any discount. If you are the only adult in your home you can usually get 25% off, and Council Tax Support can reduce the bill for people on a low income. Ask your council what you can claim.
